Synopsis: Ciudad en ciernes is the result of a project that includes a series of performances aimed at raising awareness on one single issue: the city must guarantee human rights and the concept of urbanism a means to provide those. Internationally known film artists such as Lucrecia Martel, Miguel Albaladejo, Gracia Querejeta, Joaquim Jorda, Pedro Barbadillo and Chus Gutiérrez took part in this project. She directed the piece of work "La plaza de DJEMMA EL-FNA (a meeting point). According to the director: "This piece that I intend to complete for the exhibition is about public spaces. In our Western culture, capitalist and destructive by nature, public spaces tend to disappear. The public space offered by the Djemma el-Fna square in Marrakech fully and artistically reflects what a square such as this one provides in the heart of a city (...). In Western cultures, a square is seen as threatening (...). Watching is the main role of a meeting point. Observing others (...). This particular square gave me the strongest and most generous feeling I have ever experienced in a public space and even the last survivor, the poorest man, the most solitary person, the most disabled is able to spend an enjoyable afternoon without having to eat or drink anything. This piece of work aims at recreating the space and to invite the viewer to a place where the person will feel immersed in the very heart of the square, its pace, its light and its sounds. Three screens are used for this that fill up the whole of the space enabling to transport the spectator."
